The 13 year Cassini mission to Saturn will be ending in a fireball early Friday morning (if everything goes as planned).
Shear awesomeness in this one, as this article talks about NAU’s Science and Engineering Day (Sept. 23rd). This coincides with the Annual Flagstaff Festival of Science (Sept 22nd – Oct. 1st).
Researchers from around the globe cite research conducted at NAU frequently (in the top 10%, according to the World University Rankings)
On Campus/Off Campus Life:
Good news for NAU student and temporary workers. They’re getting a raise ($8.50/hr by the end of Oct.). Right now, the lowest paid workers receive $8.05/hr, and 25% of the student workers will see an increase, according to NAU President Rita Cheng.
If you’re away from Flagstaff (like yours truly) take a look at the above article. You can find NAU Football and Basketball games for free with the TuneIn app. Go Jacks!!!
Football (0-2, 0-0):
NAU Head football coach Jerome Sours is retiring after the end of this season. The announcement was made on Tuesday to ensure that the university and the community had an opportunity the thank coach Sours over the remainder of the season. Coach Sours is the winningest coach in Big Sky history (112 wins (76 Conf. wins) and counting). I remember playing football in Arizona in the late 90’s and Coach Sours visiting our practice. We didn’t talk or anything, but when I saw this article it did remind me of that time and how, for most recent NAU grads, they’ve never known an NAU football program without Coach Sours. We wish you the best Coach, and thank you for all the great memories you’ve given us. You truly are a Lumberjack Legend!
9 days until NAU hits the road to take on Cal Poly! Go Jacks!!!
Well, 57 yards rushing (and 278 yard of total offense) will usually not win yo a football game, which is what happened last Saturday. Hopefully, the Jacks will take the week off and come back refreshed and get that first W of the season! Go Jacks!!!
Women’s Soccer (5-2-0, 0-0):
The Lady Jacks lost to UNLV (2-1) but bounced back against Pacific (2-1). Tomorrow, they kick off their New Mexico tour in Las Cruces to take on the Aggies before heading up to Albuquerque to face the Lobos (and close out non-Conference play). Go Jacks!!!
Volleyball (4-5, 0-0):
Volleyball started the Lumberjack Classic in Flagstaff with 2 losses against Utah St. (1-3), ASU (1-3) and then got some payback (from the Jackrabbit Invitational) against CSU Bakersfield (3-1). Up next, a trip to Hawaii to take on the Warriors! Go Jacks!!!!
The NCAA National Champion Lumberjack Cross Country team received their rings last week. Way to go, Jacks!
Way to go Peter, congratulations!
The Defending NCAA Champions began their title defense on the right foot with 1st place finishes at the George Kyte Classic in Flagstaff! Up next, the Greater Louisville Classic on the 30th. Go Jacks!!!
